As many of you know, Liberty Life Church was burglarized last week and a comparably small amount of cash was taken from the financial office. However, damage was done to several doors, and our two offices were ransacked.

One of the questions asked by a reporter was, “how do you feel about churches being broke into?”  I mentioned how it reveals, unlike in past decades, our culture no longer sees the church building as a place to respect or consider sacred.  Obviously, those who dishonor the church building in such a way have no fear of God.

Perhaps the church is as much to blame as the society in which we live.  We have not taught or demonstrated the fear of the Lord as we ought.  Little by little we have become more casual in worship and in respect of church sanctuaries. We have compromised the Gospel message, too often giving a one-sided view of God. Too often speaking of love and grace, and less on the judgement and awe of God. But a grace of God that does not include a reverential fear of God is a false grace. Romans 11:22 says we are to consider therefore the kindness AND sternness of God.

Today we will see how many of the things we fear today are tied to our lack of the fear of the Lord.

Today let us remember the first lesson of the Exodus was this: “…that all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty, that you may fear the Lord your God forever”  Joshua 4:24.

Consider, therefore, the kindness and sternness of God.” Romans 11:22
